General presentation

The project aims to understand the physics of the most important network on Earth for living organisms: the hydraulic network, which carries sap to the leaves, enabling efficient photosynthesis and the production of oxygen released into the atmosphere. Here, we propose to explore the disruption of this hydraulic network after periods of cavitation, during severe water stress, which is expected to occur in a context of global climate change with more severe drought episodes.

The objectives will be to study the propagation of embolism in real systems (leaves), biomimetic systems operating under positive pressure, and biomimetic systems operating in the most realistic manner under negative pressure.
