Tools for understanding the living tree

The research conducted within research unit relies on a set of experimental devices, original methods, and dedicated models, developed and adapted to explore the functioning of trees in all their complexity.

These tools -whether field or laboratory, mechanical, physiological or digital- allow us to observe, measure, simulate and analyze the responses of trees to fluctuations in their environment. They contribute to deciphering the mechanisms of growth, functioning (e.g., hydraulics), biomechanics and adaptation to various environmental contexts. These structuring resources, often developed within the unit itself, are at the heart of our interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches. They are the scientific uniqueness of the PIAF.
