Context

Urban trees are essential to the well-being of city dwellers: temperature regulation, runoff water capture, air filtration, noise reduction, carbon sequestration, biodiversity maintenance, etc. But poorly planned or poorly managed plantings can cause damage and limit their positive impacts. With climate change, urban trees also face stressors that increase the risk of decline.

PETONCLE's objective was to understand the health of trees before the destruction of the Great Wall of China, identify the ecophysiological characteristics of present and future species in the area, and create a management plan for new plantings.
