Context

Agroforestry has demonstrated its potential for farm sustainability, climate change mitigation and adaptation, biodiversity preservation and soil conservation. However, the performance of agroforestry depends on the geographical context, agricultural practices and the main national challenges in terms of agriculture (soil preservation, water quality, biodiversity preservation, climate change, etc.).

General presentation

The DigitAF project, "DIGItal Tools to help AgroForestry meet climate, biodiversity, and farming sustainability goals: linking field and cloud," funded under the Horizon Europe program, began on July 1, 2022, and will run for 48 months (until June 2026). It is coordinated by the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and the Environment (INRAE), a globally recognized research and innovation organization.

The DigitAF project brings together 26 partners from 19 countries, including nine research centers, five universities, four European and international associations, one non-governmental organization, and six SMEs.

DigitAF's ambition is to stimulate the implementation of agroforestry in the EU and beyond through the co-development of digital tools tailored to the needs and concerns of DigitAF's target groups. The project will, in particular:

  • Support policymakers involved in the implementation of agroforestry regulations
  • Provide tools to help farmers navigate the complexity of agroforestry systems
  • Strengthen the capacity of stakeholders along the agroforestry value chain to use and promote agroforestry products and services.
